Currently, GHEI employs 3 Program Coordinators—Health Program Coordinator, Education Program Coordinator, and Communications Director—to manage its programs in Ghana alongside a team of local management and staff. Responsibilities range from project monitoring and evaluation to local capacity building. Additionally, Coordinators oversee groups of short-term volunteers with specific interventions designed to complement GHEI's ongoing projects. The Coordinators serve a term of 13-24 months, with preference given to applicants who can commit to 24 months. This term includes a one-month overlap period with the outgoing Program Coordinator to allow for training. GHEI provides free housing and utilities in addition to a local salary during the Coordinator's term.


Health Program Coordinator / Based in Humjibre / October 2012 - November 2013

This position entails working with GHEI's local staff and team of Community Health Workers (CHWs) to plan, implement, and monitor health interventions. These programs tend to evolve with time and currently include Malaria Prevention, Hand-washing Promotion, and community-based health education outreaches. In addition, the Health Program Coordinator plans and facilitates short-term health intervention projects carried out by short-term volunteer groups during the summer and winter months This position requires flexibility, maturity, and the ability to work in an underserved, resource poor environment.

 


Education Program Coordinator / Based in Humjibre/ March 2013 - April 2014

This position entails working with GHEI’s local education staff and volunteer teachers to implement a range of community-based education activities. Current programs include a community library, early childhood literacy classes (primary school students), a youth education program (junior high students), and a senior high scholarship program. In addition, the Education Program Coordinator plans and facilitates 2-week projects carried out by short-term volunteer groups during the summer months. This position requires project management experience, work experience in a developing country, demonstrated cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to live and work in a resource-poor environment.

 


Communications Officer / Based in Humjibre / March 2013 - April 2014

This position entails working closely with both the local Ghanaian staff and the Western Team to manage GHEI's in-country publicity and web-based marketing. Responsibilities include facilitating local stakeholder meetings, promoting GHEI's work through social media and blogging, and organizing campaigns for current and potential donors. This position is requires a great deal of flexibility since responsibilities can change greatly throughout the year. During the summer months, GHEI hosts a series of short-term volunteer groups, and the Communications Officer plays a role in recruiting, training, and supporting these teams of volunteer. This position requires creativity, an outgoing personality, thoughtfulness, initiative, and an ability to work in a challenging, resource poor environment.
